Tips from Renaissance Learning

Choose shorter before easier

Choose longer before harder

If the student is missing questions at the beginning of a book, it is too long.

If the student is missing questions all over, the book is too difficult

The book should be at grade level or below for pleasure reading.  No one should ever be above a 5.2 (even h.s. seniors), it lowers the window of proficiency.

No retaking tests.  Students will pay closer attention while reading if they have to remember it.  This helps with the details and comprehension.
